Freedom Speakers International has established its first university club, at Tarleton State University in Texas. The faculty advisor and TSU-FSI founder is Marisa Hellawell, Assistant Professor at TSU, and the students who built the TSU FSI Club are ready to carry our mission onto a university campus.
We are launching the club with an event on June 18, 2026 at Tarleton State - Fort Worth, featuring Songmi Han, a North Korean refugee fellow with FSI and co-author of Greenlight to Freedom; Casey Lartigue, co-author of Greenlight to Freedom with Songmi and co-founder of FSI; and Eunkoo Lee, co-founder of FSI.
The major goal of the TSU FSI Club is to keep tuition free for North Korean refugee Keynote Speakers in FSI.
With the launch of the FSI Club at Tarleton State University, students will have opportunities to:
- Organize forums featuring North Korean refugee speakers
- Support fundraising campaigns connected to North Korean refugee initiatives
- Participate in leadership and volunteer activities
- Expand awareness about the lives and experiences of North Korean refugees
To support the launch of the club, we are running a fundraiser to cover:
- Future speaking events
- Educational activities
- Student leadership development
- Outreach and promotional activities
- North Korean refugee speaker engagement
- Keeping tuition free for North Korean refugees
Every gift, large or small, goes directly into building this club and keeping tuition free for North Korean refugee Keynote Speakers in Seoul.
