Freedom Speakers International (FSI) has empowered more than 600 North Korean refugees with English, public speaking, and career development. Thanks to donors, we are able to keep our programming free for North Korean refugees who study with us.
This approach is not unanimous. FSI co-founder Eunkoo Lee prefers to keep programming free. FSI co-founder Casey Lartigue believes that North Korean refugees should pay something or engage in fundraising.
Because Eunkoo feels strongly about this, we have kept programming free and put the burden on ourselves to raise money to cover costs and to raise money for a rainy day.
One of our South Korean donors has offered to help with a monthly pledge of 5 million won (about $3,400). He has challenged us to raise money publicly to match his pledge.
He first learned about Matching Donations a few years ago when a businessman from Alabama offered us a Matching Donation, of which he matched about $7,000. The South Korean businessman was surprised and said he would like to do a Matching Donation Challenge one day.
You can become a Monthly donor, set up your own fundraiser that supports this project, or make a one-time donation this month. If we can hit the fundraising goal by the end of April then we can repeat this challenge every month.
