"I am from North Korea" North Korean Refugee English Speech Contest (23rd Edition)

[Event Description]
Join us for the 23rd edition of the North Korean Refugee English Speech Contest, "I am from North Korea," presented by Freedom Speakers International (FSI). This event offers a unique opportunity to hear firsthand accounts of the lived experiences of North Korean refugees.

[Event Highlights]

  • Date and Time: February 28th, 10:00 a.m. start (speech contest).
  • Venue: D Tower (Gwanghwamun)
  • Presentations: North Korean refugees will give original speeches in English, each up to 10 minutes long.
  • Special Guest: TBA
  • Master of Ceremonies: Casey Lartigue Jr., co-founder of FSI.

[Background]
Freedom Speakers International (FSI) was founded in March 2013 by Casey Lartigue Jr. and Eunkoo Lee, with a mission to empower North Korean refugees through mentorship, opportunities, and partnerships. FSI has provided English, public speaking, and career development training to over 600 North Korean refugees with the help of 1,200 volunteers. Additionally, FSI has published four books by North Korean refugees, with two more scheduled for release in 2026.

Our mission is to empower North Korean refugees and foster greater empathy and understanding within the global community. Through events like the English Speech Contest, public events in South Korea, and book publishing, FSI aims to provide support and opportunities for North Korean refugees to thrive.
